Nutritional Therapy

Your body is amazing, although it may not always feel that way.

You are unique and your response to food and environmental factors is entirely specific to you.  By investigating your health history and symptoms, your diet, family health history, digestive function, sleep, lifestyle including stress and work, environmental factors and genetic predisposition, we can build a detailed picture of your health journey and learn how all these factors may have contributed to your current situation.

Nutritional therapy and the functional medicine approach looks at each individual as unique and focuses on the person as a whole, not just a collection of symptoms.

All the systems in your body are connected... just think about how stress can alter your digestive function, sleep and mood for example. By looking at the impact on different biological systems nutritional therapy can identify and address potential nutritional imbalances that can result in health issues.

Addressing underlying imbalances enables me to focus on:

Balancing and supporting your digestion and nutrient absorption,

Support and balance of your immune system, including analysis of your microbiome and inflammatory response

Promoting hormonal balance

Supporting neurotransmitter production and the stress response

Optimising energy production

Supporting replenishing sleep

Over 2000 years ago Hippocrates, who is regarded as the father of modern medicine said ‘all disease begins in the gut’ and the latest scientific research is increasingly discovering the roles the microbiome (the community of bacteria that resides in your gut) plays in health, including metabolism, immunity, hormones and cognitive function.

The balance and composition of gut bacteria and the whole human microbiome, consisting of in excess of 10,000 species both internally and the bacteria on our skin, have been linked to influencing the development of a variety of diseases and conditions including obesity, diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, infectious diseases, gastrointestinal (including inflammatory bowel disease), liver (including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease), metabolic, respiratory, psychological and autoimmune diseases.
